River Ranger Post
1 year contract with possibility of extension (dependant on funding)
Salary: £22,000 pa
Working hours: Full time, 37.5 hour week, Flexible working hours.
Other benefits: Pension, annual leave allowance (25 days plus bank holidays), travel expenses.
Background
From its source on the moorlands above Holme, West Yorkshire, the River Holme winds its way through the countryside and villages before reaching Huddersfield town centre where it joins the River Colne. The river over the years has been the lifeblood of villages, a leisure facility for anglers, walkers and a place for locals and visitors to relax and enjoy the views. Yet, years of neglect, the arrival of invasive species and littering had taken their toll.
The role
The successful applicant will be based in the charity`s office in Honley (Huddersfield, West Yorkshire), working alongside the small team of staff, trustees and volunteers.
The role will involve practical outdoor river and riparian improvement work such as river habitat improvements, waste removal, monitoring and treatment of invasive species, tree planting and maintenance. The applicant will support and engage with volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds. The applicant will also get involved in environmental education work, assisting at public events, social media (Facebook, twitter and Instagram) updates, funding bids, river surveying, geographical information system updates (QGIS) and general admin work.
