Over half term we ran an explorers day at Spa Wood and invited local families to come and enjoy the recently renovated area.
40 people attended the event and took part in the various river inspired activities we ran along the river side with the help of some of our volunteers.
The children tried their hand at some fishing along the riverside and snapped some great pictures of the wildlife using professional camera equipment. They then got their hands dirty looking for mini beasts and taking part in some arts and crafts.
Getting people involved
Our aim for event like this is to get people involved and raise awareness about the river and the wildlife that surrounds it. This is a great way for people of all ages to come and learn how we can all do our bit to make our local environment better for everyone.
Simon Hirst, our river steward, who helped run the event explained: “Events like this allow us to use the outdoors as a classroom. The kids can learn about the river and caring for the environment all whilst having fun over half term.”
