I’m excited to be joining River Holme Connections as an Engagement Officer, supporting its work to protect and improve the river Holme catchment for people and for wildlife.
I’m local to the area and feel very lucky to have grown up in Holmfirth. As a kid, I spent a lot of time exploring and splashing about in the River Holme and its tributaries, experiences that first sparked my long-standing fascination with freshwater biology and the environment.
I later moved away from the valley to study at the University of Nottingham, where I gained a first-class MSci degree in Biology, before spending three years living and working in Leeds as a laboratory technician. Now I’m back in Holmfirth and I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in with all the amazing projects and work that RHC undertakes and meeting our brilliant volunteers and partners.
I’m super passionate about reconnecting people with the natural world and helping others understand the challenges facing freshwater habitats. I want to share why our rivers, streams and wider environment matter, and how we can all play a part in protecting them for people and wildlife. By creating meaningful opportunities for everyone to learn about, enjoy and connect with these habitats and the species that depend on them, I hope to inspire conservation action now and for the future.
