This event is free to attend.
Guided Walk with Chris Abell – New Mill – Too many INNS, not enough pubs
This walk will start in New Mill and walk on paths beside New Mill Dyke to Hepworth. We will look at the post industrial landscape, looking for INNS and counting the now redundant mills.
After leaving New Mill the walk is on mainly in Woodland adjacent to New Mill Dyke, before ascending to Scholes and then tracks Hepworth. Our return will along the route of the A616 which we walk along short lengths and crossing into woodland before returning to New Mill.
Some of these paths may be overgrown, hence shorts are not recommended. Boots are recommended as the paths, although well used, are rough and stony in places and there are some short wet stretches. There are numerous ups and downs that are occasionally steep.
Meeting point
At New Mill car park on A635, 100m West of New Mill cross roads. If the CP. is full there is parking for a few cars a short way up Sheffield Rd (A616). At the time of writing in July, buses 314 and X1 pass through New Mill on Sundays. Please check latest timetable for details.
